The North Face Spectrum 33: Unbiased Review

PRODUCT REPORT

The North Face Spectrum 33 - 3 Person Tent

The North Face Spectrum 33 - 3 Person Tent is advertised to be an extremely stable, single-walled ultralight tent for three people.

It features Micro Clip technology - a lighter weight clip with improved strength and holding power and DryWeld - an advanced technology that both prevents leakage and improves flysheet durability.

It also boasts Reverse-Combi Poles for greater comfort and greater headroom for occupants.

The North Face Spectrum 33 is very lightweight, at only 4 lbs 12 oz, but is large enough to easily accomodate 3 people.

The Spectrum 33 has been enhanced, to improve its ventilation capability, by using an aluminum Nano-Knuckle.

The North Face offers a lifetime warranty.

FEEDBACK & REVIEWS

Actual Customer Feedback:
 ★★★½☆

“I have had this tent for a few years now and I love it.”
Portion of actual user comment on moosejaw.com

“It doesn’t do super well when there is high humidity”
Portion of actual user comment on backcountry.com

The North Face Spectrum 33 - 3 Person Tent is praised by users living in a dry climate, while users that live in a wet climate recommend choosing another model.

While all users are very pleased with its extremely low weight, they are not as pleased with the tents performance in high humidity areas, or during rain.

Users report water seeping through the lower seams, making it uncomfortable to stay in, and certainly not an option for heavy rain season.

Users living in a dry area, however, are very pleased with its performance, and although they say it takes a while to properly learn how to set it up, to take advantage of its improved ventilation, it is certainly worth it.

The North Face Spectrum 33 is generally recommended by its users, for its lightweight and good ventilation, but only if you plan on using it in a dry area, or when heavy rain is not expected.

PRODUCT DETAILS

Company Info:

The North Face brand was established in 1968 in San Francisco, California, when Douglas Tompkins and Dick “Hap” Klopp created an equipment retail store that eventually acquired the current name “The North Face”. This name was chosen because the north face of a mountain in the northern hemisphere is generally the most difficult face to climb.

The North Face’s logo consists of a slightly skewed quarter-circle with two lines running within it. This image is an interpretation of Half Dome, a rock formation in Yosemite National Park, viewed from the west, with the sheer north (or northwest) face of Half Dome to the left.
