Kelty Mantra 7 Tent Review
The 7 person Mantra tent is designed as a three season tent. Even though it is labeled as a 7 person tent, most owners say it is big but not really big enough for 7 adults. The tent weighs in at about 25 pounds and makes a great family or group tent.
Tent Size
This tent offers 116 square feet with a vestibule that offers an extra 39 square feet. The vestibule is a great place to store extra gear and leave shoes with all their mud, dirt and sand. It also makes a great place to hangout if it rains on your campout.
You will also be glad to know that the tent is tall enough for a six foot person to standup. This makes it real easy to change clothes without being cramped.
There is plenty of room for queen and twin air mattresses as well as some extra space for moving around and storing gear.
Weather Proof
Owners are happy with the waterproof design of the Kelty Mantra 7 tent. One owner went through a rain storm that had the tent sitting in about 1 – 2 inches of standing water for over 30 minutes and no leaks.
Several owners reported the tent was capable of handling heavy winds including wind gusts from an electrical storm that were in the range of 50-70 miles per hour. Another owner who experienced high winds said one of the poles got bend, but within two weeks Kelty had the pole fixed and returned.
Ventilation
Ventilation in this tent is great. The mesh is plentiful and keeps the tent from building up moisture. There are two doors and 3 mesh windows.
Setup
Setup is really a two person job and can be a little difficult getting the poles through the sleeves, but at this point most tents are like that. The poles and the attachment points are all very strong.
FYI: As always it is best to setup this tent at home before you go camping and have to get it right.
Overall the tent is recommended by owners for a 4 or 5 person family with gear and a dog or two. It is recommended that you purchase the footprint which will protect the bottom of the tent. Also be sure to use a throw rug or an old blanket to layout under the vestibule as it does not have a floor.
