Kelty Green River 4 Person Tent Review
This Kelty Green River tent is designed as a 2 season tent for four people. You will also want to know that it is designed more like a base camp tent as it weights around 22 pounds packed.
Tent Size
What people like about this tent is that it is roomy! The floor area is 81 square feet. To give you a better idea of the size you can place both a king and twin air mattress in the back and still have room up front for changing and some of your gear. You might say it is a very room 4 person tent and some owners have reported sleeping 5 and a dog.
The tent is designed to be free standing but be aware that the vestibule is not. It has one pole but also needs to be tied down. Also note the footprint that is sold for this tent does not extend into the vestibule so getting an extra tarp or throw rug is really needed for this area. However once put up the vestibule is room and can easily accommodate two camp chairs though some have had four under it during rainy weather.
Weather Proof Speaking of rain, there are mixed opinions regarding the rain worthiness of the then but it rode out three torrential thunderstorms in one night but kept everyone dry. Also of interest this tent seems to ride out the wind well also as several campers reported it doing just fine in 30-40 mph winds. Several owners have recommended that when you get the tent that you do ad extra seam sealer to all the seams on the tent to better keep them watertight as some owners a issues with some leakage around the seems. Ventilation Be aware that when the rain fly is on the tent has no windows so on a hot night it might get a little warm with just the door for your main ventilation. Some roll up the back of the tent to let the breeze in through the mesh along the back. If you are camping in cool weather be aware that the mesh around the tent can let some cool breezes in so have a warm sleeping bad with you, it is a 2 season tent after all. Another area that people talk about with the Kelty Green River tent relates to the fiberglass poles. There have been several complaints about them being not as durable as needed. Also of note several owners talked about the poles being a rather tight in the sleeves. Setup Setup of the tent is fairly straight forward however it is recommended that you setup the tent once at home. It can be setup with one person but two make it much easier. Also when selecting a tent site you will need a large space because this tent is large! It is tall enough that most people can walk around in the tent which makes it easy for changing. Most owners say the tent was worth the money and much better then department store tents. The average rating on this tent is 3.5 out of 5 stars. Upgrade to the Kelty Green River 4 tent today!
