Camping Knives For Survival

There are different types of camping knives available in the marketplace. You can buy survival knives especially when you are planning to head for wild camping. As its name suggests, survival camping knives are used in emergency and survival conditions. These types of knives are designed with a long, strong blade that can be used to help cut fire wood, dig a hole or cut up some food.

Typically survival camping knives have saw like teeth along a portion of the blade. There are ongoing debates on the appropriate length of the blade of a good survival knife. You should consider one that is long enough to get the job done but not so long that it gets in the way or scares to many people!

Camping Knives As Kitchen Appliances

When you are on a camping trip, you may like to use chef’s knives. Typically, when you shop from any standard camping gear retailers, you can find a pack of camping knives which includes all the necessary knives, forks and spoons. In most of the cases, the camping knives designed exclusively for kitchen purpose are made up of stainless steel. Hence these knives generally do not get affected much by the changing weather or humidity of the open air.

If you are really roughing it your survival knife can double as a kitchen knife as needed.

Camping Knives - Fixed Blade & Folding Knives

As their name suggests, fixed blade camping knives contain one blade fixed in front of the handle. Typically survival knives are fixed blade knives. These types of knives are kept inside the sheath and used for both defense and during any emergency situations.

Folding knives come in a variety of formats. Some are single blades that fold and have a clip so they can be attached to a pant pocket. Others have more than one blade or tool in the knife. All of them are very small in size and can easily fit into a pocket.

A fixed blade knife is usually bigger and stronger while the folding knives are smaller with shorter blades. They both have advantages in different areas.

There is nothing quite like the new multi-tool pocket knives that fold up and store 10 to 20 tools. On the other hand if you need foot and are trying to dig for a root then a long bladed survival knife is nice.

So why not just have both kinds around. Then you will have the tools you need to get the job done.

As you head out for your next camping trip be sure you have your trusty camping knives with you!
